I'm 11 games into my first season with A.C. Trento in Serie C/A. I'm 6-4-1 and three points off the top with a league leading +11 GD.

My first Serie C tournament game I won in pens 20-19!!!!!! Missed the first PK and hit 20 in a row after that. In the second tournament match there were 12 yellow cards.

I spent every last cent bringing in depth, so the board is mad at me about that, but they're thrilled that I'm in second so it's all good for now. I'm running a goofy 4-3-3 with either an attacking mid on top of a BWM and a BBM against poor teams and a BWM/BBM/DM trio in games im not favored in. Super fun. No idea what my roster will look like next season with all these 1-year contracts but so far so good.

Also, my plan was to try to win the tournament, thinking that would bring in some money for next season. Instead in the second game (a 2-1 extra time win over Montova at home) I sold 10 tickets ...

What tactical style are you using in that formation? I've never had much success doing anything besides Gegenpressing or similar variants.

Gegenpress is still the goat apparently. In 22 I had a lot of success with a straight 4-4-2 tiki taka but I don’t have the strikers for that at the moment so I can’t test it out

Turns out Apple Arcade is free for three months (maybe only because I just bought a new phone?) and FM Touch is on there. Unfortunately this game seems way too in depth to try and learn, much less play effectively, on my phone. The amount of depth is so enticing, but just comes off as daunting in this medium. Keep up the updates though.

I'm not a huge soccer guy, but I do know tiki taka. I have no clue on Gegenpressing, tho.

I bought one of the PS5 console/God of War Ragnarok bundles when it released on Tuesday. It is supposed to deliver this morning. Perfect timing, because I just beat Elden Ring last night. :D

Ended up winning Serie C/A, went 21-12-5 and won the Serie C cup in a crazy one over Vicenza, lost 3-2 in the first leg and won 5-2 in the second leg.

My top goal scorer was a 19 year old Senegalese striker named Ndiack Gningue that I signed on a free in the offseason.

I have no idea what is going to happen in Serie B. I got promotion and my board upped my payroll but not my transfer budget. Might get messy

Had an up and down preseason but won my Serie B debut 4-1 over Perugia with a Lorenzo Gatto hat trick and a late goal by Ricardo Bocalon. Everyone says to go 4-4-2 after promotion but the 4-4-3 dominated possession and i ripped off 24 shots. Honestly it was one of the 2-3 best performances my squad has had, and it comes after a late 3-2 loss to Serie A Salento in the Italian Cup, so maybe I'm onto something.

Figuring out how to bolster my team in the summer window was crazy. Even with promotion I still didn't have much of a transfer budget, and most of the teams in the league have at least one player with a higher transfer value than my entire payroll, which sits at $3.2 million. I ended up selling my best player, a left fullback, and investing in high-potential youth and one higher-paid winger.

My goal is to stay up this year, invest in one or two more higher-paid dudes and hope my youth guys start coming good in two years. Fingers crossed.

How do you tend to incorporate youth players? At the Serie B level it's maybe not as much an issue, but I never feel like I'm maximizing the potential of the youth I do get. Best case scenario it's something like 2nd team -> lower level loan -> bench/rotation player -> starter, sometimes with a 2nd loan depending on age.

this is the first time i've tried it to this extent so i dont know if im doing it right. The squad planner gives you a good idea of who you need to prepare. Then i just try and get them minutes in games I hope they don't do too well in but hope they don't do too poorly either.

3-0 away win at Cagliari despite having 36 percent possession. Saved a pen and banged in 3 of my 4 shots on goal. Serie B is not ready

I believe this should have you covered in that regard. The systems all appear to be so deep that there's no one "right" way to build out any class. You custom-fit the build to what you need the character to be doing.

Even with respect to weapons, there's a solid case to be made to stick with starter-tier weapons instead of their pricier cousins, in certain cases. Even though the newer ones may have a higher attack value associated with them, the lower tier weapons may be less heavy, have a different damage type (slashing/piercing/bludgeoning), or have an associated stat bonus that the higher tier doesn't.

I'm getting the distinct impression I could play this game for years and not master all of the mechanics, nor exhaust all the ways you could build out a team.

That's awesome. Yeah I think the thing about FFT was the depth. There was almost always a good push/pull between power and speed/mobility...at least until late game when you have like ninjas with dual knight swords or calculators with auto-haste or similar game-breakers.

And those overpowered classes may well exist here. I'm still only in chapter 2, so I'm not bumping up against the endgame here. But to this point, most all of the classes have been fairly balanced.

One thing that's nice is that you can scout out the battlefield ahead of time, and fine-tune your team before going in. No undead on the field? Then I guess my knight can drop his skill that keeps undead from getting near him. And instead, he can use that skillslot to some other end. More hp, the ability to do pincer attacks, a skill that locks down enemies standing next to you, a skill that decreases damage against you, etc... Every character has waaaaay more skills than they can possibly equip, and most of them appear to be at least situationally useful.

So not only are you taking different characters to each battle, but those characters have slightly different skills every battle. So you'll be changing up your tactics and how you play accordingly. It's a fair bit of work (which probably isn't necessary for some battles), but it's really refreshing to be approaching all these battles in slightly different ways.

Reached the Jan. transfer window in my first year in Serie B. All I can afford is some loans for depth so we'll see how the end of the season goes.

Right now I'm 7-5-8 and in 10th. All-in-all an acceptable result, despite the fact that I won like 4 of my first six matches. I hit a real dead streak in the middle, lots of losses, like three draws and no wins. But I've seen won back-to-back matches in two games i was favored to lose so maybe we're coming out of it.

26 points in 20 is OK, given that I probably only need 40 points to avoid relegation playoffs.

Tom has horror movies and Godzilla, and IMB has a digital journal for a make-believe soccer season. Not sure which is more lame.
