Just got off an 8 hour flight. Used it to knock out some movies on my backlog (Interstellar, Arrival, and A Promising Young Woman). Was hoping to make it a sci-fi triple-header with The Martian, but it wasn’t an option.

These companies are very weird. I get HBO Max for free because I have ATT phone and internet. Will that go away?

The speculation/talk right now is that HBO Max and Discovery+ will be mashed together into a single app that is focused on unscripted programming. Then there will presumably/hopefully be an HBO app a la HBO Go, where almost all of the original programming is stuff made for the broadcast version of HBO.

So to use the DC content as an example: that stuff went from the DC Universe app to HBO Max, and now might realistically mostly go poof and disappear.

Pisses me off that HBO Max has programming that I can't get on demand through my HBO subscription with DirectTV. My AppleTV is one of the older ones where I can't add apps so it's a PITA to watch any HBO Max programming. I either have to use my phone to stream it to my TV or watch my iPhone or laptop.

Finally had the time to see Everything Everywhere All at Once and I am not okay right now.

This may have been the first movie where I was simultaneously crying and laughing uncontrollably.

I love hearing people's reaction to watching this movie for the first time.

It was a beautiful movie. Not to get too deep down the rabbit hole here, the movie used the multiverse as a metaphor for psychological processes. All those different versions of her and her family were different values/behaviors that are in all of us. It is reconciling all those competing things that make us whole or the best version of us. The emotional reaction we have is our reflection of the movie on our own life.

I'll never comprehend what exactly it saves streaming services by removing content they completely own that's already on there. Bandwidth costs? How are they penny-pinching by not making something available that's already run its course?

I'm pretty sure it comes down to how the contracts for licensing/residuals are structured. You'd think that companies would be smart enough to tie those payouts to the popularity of the show/movie itself, but since competition for content is so fierce there's probably a number of them that are an active drain on revenue if they aren't as popular as expected.

To be (a tiny bit) fair, the movie, which doesn't have its own Wikipedia page, is listed as "Sally Hemings: An American Scandal" in both their filmographies. So thinking this one might be a bit photoshopped.

Yeah, an image search for the movie shows a bunch of stuff that includes that scandal language and generally looks less like the cover of a romance novel. But then again that is the real DVD cover art!
