they had another really egregious one recently. their continued insistence on bothsides'ing everything is baffling to say the least.

I recognize that this is an older post in this thread, and I'm certainly not trying to pick fights with anyone in this forum, but I feel like it is worth pointing out that in this case, as in many others, the there is no journalistic "crime" being committed. The NYT article in question doesn't attempt to excuse the shady stuff that SBF did. From the article:
"Once the golden boy of the crypto world, Mr. Bankman-Fried, 30, was arrested this month on criminal charges that included wire fraud, securities fraud, money laundering and violations of campaign finance laws. He is accused of diverting billions of dollars in customer funds to a trading platform he controlled. Two of his top former deputies pleaded guilty last week and are cooperating with federal prosecutors in building the case against him. One of them, Caroline Ellison, admitted to being involved in diverting the customer funds, telling a federal judge, “I knew that it was wrong.”

NYT was never trying to defend SBF; this is a story about how Bahamians feel about him and his economic impact on the islands.

Again, not trying to pick fights, but I feel like a lot of the antipathy toward the Times specifically comes from parsing headlines over the contents of the reporting, which seems especially unfair as journalists rarely write their own headlines.

Your point is taken, but the whole point of some of the criticism in general, and nytpitchbot in particular, is to deride the headline/tweet blurb because that is all a large number of people read/absorb.

yeah, my issue is not with the criticism of the headlines/tweets really, every newsroom can do better at that, NYT in particular because of just how much news they publish. my issue is with the extreme twitter brain lib who reads 200 characters in a tweet and decides the entire paper is biased or whatever. 99 percent of the time it's just clout-chasing libs trying to score points by taking on legacy media and most of the time the only person it actually impacts is the reporter who busted their ass and 99 percent of the time did a great job (the sbf story is a good example)

If Haberman is a "hack", so are about 99.5% of all journalists out there.
