You're right in that it was much more of a blind date thing as opposed to, "here's a bunch info/pics/everything ahead of time; let's bang" it can be now, but it really did become a huge thing almost right away (it was one of those things that everyone mocked, yet tons of people were using. Kinda like people who voted for Nixon). I was, and remain, too terrified to try online dating, but my infinitely better looking and more athletic younger brother used it back in the 90's and somehow ended up dating a model, which just made me even more scared and bitter.
