I'd probably watch and then play, but I do think it will be pretty easy to play along. The game is essentially a road trip, with each stop as a separate level. I'm presuming the show will be similarly paced with each city being an episode (or two for the more eventful ones).

My guess (spoiler heavy for those that haven't played/beaten the game)

Spoiler: show
1. Prologue, Boston Quarantine Zone
2. Boston proper
3. Bill's Town (apparently episode 3 is very Nick Offerman heavy and apparently diverges from the game quite a bit)
4. Pittsburgh (this will be Kansas City in the show)
5. Meeting with Tommy at the Dam
6. University/Joel injury
7. Creepy Canibal winter episode
8-9. SLC

This looks right. Only place I can see a potential change would be winter being two episodes and SLC being one instead? Especially if the flashback to Ellie's romance and getting bit are shown here like they were in the Left Behind DLC.

I loved the vignette at the beginning of the episode. I really hope we are going to get something like that every week to flesh out the world a little more.

I watched the 1st episode again after the 2nd and they briefly mention Jarakat at the beginning as they are listening to the news, so apparently, it spread quickly. I'd guess they will have some high-level military stuff and shuttling the President next week.

The decision to bomb the citizens will definitely be a cold open

The fungus spreading via flour is a great way to get it all over the world without infected having to eat their way through intercontinental air travel

Also, my kid pointed out that Joel/Tommy/Joel's daughter were saved from the initial infection because no one made (ate?) the pancakes (waffles?) that probably had the infected flour in them

Throwing this here, potentially should be in the video game thread, whatever.

Clearly not going to be able to avoid spoilers on Last of Us....not really upset about it, it is what it is. I haven't played the game and saw it's only like a 15 hour playthrough. Watched the first episode, loved it, planning on watching the second episode at some point this week. Kids/job/etc means I can't just take a weekend and knock the game out, would probably be a few weeks to get through the game....is it worth it to go that route and then catch up on the show after?

Yes. It’s the best video game I’ve ever played.

FWIW, I haven’t mentioned any game spoilers. I’ve only talked about the show itself.

Ok? Sounded like I was being accused of spoiling the show by giving info from later in the game (which I don't think I have)

Yes. It’s the best video game I’ve ever played.

From a gameplay perspective it is basically Uncharted 3 with limited climbing/platforming, tank-like enemies, very limited resources and a heavy focus on stealth/avoiding large battles. Its like if MGS3 met Uncharted, I guess. If that came off as a criticism it isn’t, its extremely fun and engaging to play. But obv the story is the main draw. The way they present the story and develop the characters is completely unmatched in any other game Ive played. The only videogame story I’d put even close to on par with TLOU is actually MGS3. But MGS3 didn’t even have a great story until the ending came up and punched you in the gut. Taking in TLOU’s story is amazing right from the word go.

Yeah, if you can make time, I’d recommend playing it.
