I'm sure it's just a coincidence that there only seems to be some movement from the Right to finally do something about George Santos only after the whole "drag queen" revelation. Just a big ol' wacky weird coincidence.

I honestly think it has more to do with him being told to step down because he's going to be indicted for campaign finance violations. Some reporters got ahold of his FEC filings and some of his reported top donors don't exist. The financial story on this guy is going to be a banger.

What I don't understand is what the Republicans gain by wrecking the economy. If there's one thing they like it's money.

Tank the economy over the next two years. People blame the president. Sweep government in the 2024 elections.

Yeah, there's really nothing to overthink here; it's a combination of thinking the party in charge will get blamed, thinking (as they did with Jan. 6th) that they will never face any consequences for this horsefeathers, and throwing easy red meat to the dummies who get semi-chubs at the idea of "CUTTIN' GOVERNMENT SPENDIN'!!!!!"

Like, yeah, there's a definitely some of them where are straight up dumb and/or sadistic enough to want to tear it all down, but WAY more of them both just assume they'll still get paid no matter, and think this is their way to somehow move past Trump and his ilk (by embracing, in the dumbest way possible, the classic Republican lie of being fiscally conservative). Like, "see?!? We're not ONLY about horrible bigotry! We actually 'care' about how the government spends money!!!"

Is it fair to say the Republican party is disproportionately made up of 'too rich to be seriously impacted by a horsefeathers economy' and 'already horsefeathers economically anyways'?

I actually think this is giving some of them too much credit. The MTG and Gaetz crowd is just there for the lulz and enjoys the attention of being that wacky chaos agent in Congress. It’s all about staying relevant with the lunatic fringe and continuing to grift.

Splitting hairs, but your version implies some guiding principle, even if it is burning it down. I think these fools just go with whatever flow they’re feeling after reading Twitter or watching Tucker. It’s 100% about attention and grifting for them.

Well, jt has me nervous enough that I'm holding back my annual IRA contribution until this gets resolved. If they let the US default, the market is going to drop 1000s of points. I'm somewhat tempted to temporarily move my Ira to a low risk/yield fund while this sorts itself out.

CNN

The FBI is conducting a search of President Joe Biden’s home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Wednesday as a special counsel investigation into his handling of classified material begins in earnest.

“Today, with the President’s full support and cooperation, the DOJ is conducting a planned search of his home in Rehoboth, Delaware,” Biden’s personal attorney Bob Bauer wrote in a statement.

“Under DOJ’s standard procedures, in the interests of operational security and integrity, it sought to do this work without advance public notice, and we agreed to cooperate,” Bauer said. “The search today is a further step in a thorough and timely DOJ process we will continue to fully support and facilitate. We will have further information at the conclusion of today’s search.”

Reporters positioned in the coastal community observed black sport utility vehicles and sedans arriving to the home mid-morning. It wasn’t yet clear whether any classified documents were recovered from the property.

Biden’s personal attorneys previously searched the Rehoboth home on January 11 and found no classified documents.

I have no issues with this. He's cooperating and if anything it helps to disprove that Biden was getting favorable treatment over Trump.

Hey, remember when the current administration completely hung the railworkers out to dry?

Right from Union Pacific themselves:

https://www.up.com/media/releases/4q21- ... 210120.htm

Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE: UNP) today reported 2021 fourth quarter net income of $1.7 billion, or $2.66 per diluted share. This compares to adjusted 2020 fourth quarter net income of $1.6 billion, or $2.36 per diluted share. The 2020 adjusted results exclude a $278 million pre-tax, non-cash impairment charge.

Reported net income for the full year 2021 was $6.5 billion, or $9.95 per diluted share. These full year results compare to adjusted full year 2020 net income of $5.6 billion, or $8.19 per diluted share, which excludes the impairment charge.

“The Union Pacific team concluded its most profitable year ever in 2021. We produced double digit fourth quarter revenue growth by leveraging our great rail franchise to generate positive business mix and core pricing gains, despite ongoing global supply chain challenges that impacted volumes,” said Lance Fritz, Union Pacific chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Just no room in all of those sexy, sexy profits for some sick days, I guess.

This is the type of nonsense horsefeathers that they pull.

1. put a bill out to get someone to vote against to use it against them in the next election. "Congressman Green is a socialist, he voted against a bill, blah blah blah

2. Make a resolution in a hearing to recite the pledge of allegiance, "Congresslady Weld refused to support our flag".

It's all about boxing in people to a position they don't hold. It's meaningless. I don't blame anyone for voting for the resolution.
