Some time back, somebody listed three DSL players who were selected as all-stars. But I don't see that in the International thread, and think it's buried somewhere in one of the box score threads.

Can somebody re-list those three, and perhaps also copy it into the International thread? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps I just never knew. But the Cubs haven't had many all-stars there. One I know was Castro. So I'm hoping that he's a sign that whoever is selecting them aren't really just picking 3-year fillers, but are recognizing players that look promising and have a chance to be meaningful prospects.

The Cubs DSL teams seem to have more interesting prospects this year, although a lot of the prospects seem rather short, and thus of questionable likelihood to progress into huge velocity or middle-of-the-order power.

The 3 DSL all stars are 2B Gioskar Amaya, SS Marco Hernandez and CF Oliver Zapata. All are 17 throughout the season. I heard nothing about any of them when they signed.

Sorry guys - Chris Siegfried got a spot start for McNutt, probably due to the blister.

Turner and Porcello would most certainly be off the table, even if the Cubs kicked some cash Detroit's way. Other than that, their farm system is pretty barren.

Andrew Oliver.

The reason I'd like to see the Cubs deal with the Dodgers more than the Mets or Tigers is the Dodgers' greater farm depth. The Tigers aren't going to part with Turner or Porcello.

Good call, although I wasn't really high on him when he was drafted. He has a really good FB, but his offspeed stuff needs some work. I'm a bit skeptical. Still, I'd take him in a trade involving Lilly.

Now slugging .564 in his last 117 AB with 13 walks thrown in.

In the FSL.

At 20.

As a SS.

If you're looking for a potential Hanley comp, it's not Starlin. It's Junior Lake.

Just to be clear...Lake's not close to there as a prospect yet. He's got to keep up this pace for much longer before he gets that much credit.

But that's the kind of ceiling we could be talking about (minus some speed).

Hmm.

Starlin Castro had a SLG of .569 in 109 AB with 9 walks thrown in.

In the Southern League.

At 20 (only 3 days older).

As a SS.

Starlin looks to have more filling out to do, than does Lake also. Granted Castro hasn't shown the HR power that Lake has, but he's also never spent an entire year at any 1 level.

Just saying, don't rule out Castro yet. Hanley's 18-20 year old minor league seasons look a lot like Castro's.

I don't think Castro will get there with the power, though it is certainly still possible. And without a doubt, he's proven one heck of a lot more than Lake at this point. But I love the ceiling that Lake provides.

as long as he never needs to throw to 1st, Lake is in good shape. Not sure the Chiefs have had an infielder I trusted less with the game on the line and a simple grounder hit his way...

What's his defensive scouting report/potential?

As mentioned above, he's got a strong, but erratic arm at SS. Currently shows pretty good range there, but may outgrow the position eventually.

What Junior Lake has done of late is quite amazing given just how bad he was for the first half of the season. His ceiling is still higher than Starlin Castro and even in the DSL and AZL, he was considered much more patient than Castro so the patience shouldn't be too surprising. I know yesterday people were talking about top 10s but I would like to add that Lake is definitely in the back end of my top 10. Tim is right that his ceiling is higher than Castro's.
